Authorities say a man was killed and a woman was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after they were thrown from their motorcycle during a crash with an SUV near Marengo.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:22 p.m. Saturday to Kishwaukee Valley Road and Menge Road in unincorporated Marengo for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said crews received reports that CPR was in progress on one of the victims.
A second ambulance, heavy rescue squad and medical helicopter were requested to the scene.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within 10 minutes and found a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection involving a motorcycle and SUV, Vucha said.
Paramedics began assessing two adult riders who were ejected from the motorcycle and were lying in the roadway.
A male rider was pronounced dead at the scene. A LifeNet medical helicopter landed at the scene.
A female rider was flown from the scene to Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford with serious, life-threatening injuries, Vucha said.
An adult female and two juveniles were inside the SUV involved.
All three were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office shut down Kishwaukee Valley Road between Hiawatha Lane and Route 23 for several hours.
The roadway was reopened just before 9 p.m. after the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit conducted an investigation.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released any information on the cause of the crash.
