A man was flown to the hospital in critical condition and his female passenger is in serious condition after they were thrown from a motorcycle during a crash in Lakewood Monday afternoon.
The Lakewood Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 2:02 p.m. Monday to Lakewood Road and South Muirfield Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Emergency crews arrived to find a motorcycle on its side with two people down on the ground.
The male victim was determined to have been driving the motorcycle and the female victim was a passenger on the motorcycle, according to the police department.
Neither of the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, police said. No other vehicles were involved besides the motorcycle.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested and landed nearby the scene in a field.
The helicopter transported the male driver to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
The female passenger was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where she is listed in serious but stable condition.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit was called to assist with the investigation.
