A woman out on bond in three separate DUI cases was arrested for driving under the influence for the sixth time when she nearly struck a police officer with her car in Round Lake.
Elizabeth Sanchez, 38, of Round Lake, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, enhanced driving on a revoked or suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of improper stop without a signal, transportation of open alcohol by a driver and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
A Round Lake police officer was on a traffic stop where a vehicle was being towed around 3:30 a.m. on July 15.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Emily Shanley-Roberts said the officer observed Sanchez make a sharp turn and cross over the white line.
The vehicle almost struck the officer, who then got into his squad and caught up to Sanchez’s vehicle.
Sanchez’s vehicle was witnessed driving over a curb in a bar parking lot, Shanley-Roberts said.
A traffic stop was conducted and the officer noted that Sanchez had slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol and red glassy eyes.
Sanchez admitted to bar hopping and said she should not have been driving, Shanley-Roberts said.
Sanchez blew a 0.167 on a portable breath test. She also allegedly had an open bottle of tequila in the car.
Shanley-Roberts said Sanchez is out on bond in three felony cases that are pending in Lake County Circuit Court.
Shanley-Roberts asked the court to hold Sanchez without bond and said the woman has shown she has “no regard for the safety of the community.”
Lake County Judge Donna-Jo Vorderstrasse said she could not grant prosecutors’ request for no bond because the state’s attorney’s office did not file a petition.
Vorderstrasse ordered Sanchez held on a $1 million bond with several bond conditions should she post.
Sanchez has not posted bond yet, court records show.
In January, Sanchez was arrested in Lakemoor after she was found to be driving under the influence with an unrestrained baby in her car.
A status of preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 6.
