Firefighters rescued a fish and a turtle from a house that was engulfed in flames in Highland Park and officials say a pet cat remains missing following the Wednesday blaze.
The Highland Park Fire Department responded around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday to the 0-100 block of Country Lane in Highland Park for a report of a structure fire.
911 dispatchers confirmed that all residents were evacuated from the house, according to City of Highland Park officials.
The 911 caller reported that pets were still inside the burning home.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy flames in the rear of the home and requested an upgraded response, city officials said.
The flames were already through the roof and a partial collapse occurred.
Highland Park Fire Chief Joe Schrage said seven nearby fire departments responded to assist in extinguishing the fire and with search efforts.
Firefighters rescued a fish and a turtle from the home. A pet cat was found alive but a second family cat remains missing.
The fire was extinguished and fire investigators were called to the scene, city officials said.
Schrage said the residents were displaced and the residence was deemed uninhabitable.
Extra ambulances were called to the scene but no one was transported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire has not been determined yet. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
