A Round Lake Beach man has been charged with driving under the influence after a two-vehicle crash that left one person trapped and three hospitalized near Deerfield Sunday.

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, Wheeling Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:01 a.m. Sunday to Milwaukee Avenue and Inverrary Lane in unincorporated Deerfield.

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Steve McCaughey said it was initially reported to be a single-vehicle crash with injuries north of the intersection.

Fire crews arrived to find one car with moderate damage and a debris field approximately 200 feet long.

McCaughey said emergency crews noticed a trail leading off the road. A second vehicle was found 100 feet off the road in tall grass.

Firefighters worked to stabilize the car that was off the roadway and began to extricate the trapped occupant.

Three ambulances were called to the scene to transport three victims to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

McCaughey said he did not know whether any of the victims’ injuries were serious or not. The sheriff’s office said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

One of the drivers, Martin Tovar, 22, Round Lake Beach, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.

Tovar rear-ended the other vehicle involved, pushing it off the roadway, the sheriff’s office said.

Tovar was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 13.
