The coroner released the identities after a man shot four of his female family members, killing three of them, before killing himself near Crystal Lake Wednesday.
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein said Thursday the deceased were identified as Lauren Smith-Song, 32; Jean Song, 44; Yuna Song, 49; and Chang Song, 73.
Autopsies were scheduled for Thursday on the four, Rein said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 3:56 a.m. Wednesday to the 5800 block of Wild Plum Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake for a shooting.
An initial 911 caller reported at least four people were shot inside the home and the gunman was still at the scene.
A medical helicopter was placed on standby and five ambulances were called to the scene.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tim Creighton said during a press conference that deputies were initially called for a report of a household member who shot their relatives.
Deputies found three deceased adult females, which included Lauren Smith-Song, Yuna Song, and Chang Song.
They also found an adult male, Jean Song, who was critically injured. An adult female, whose identity has not been released, was seriously injured.
The seriously injured woman, who called 911, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Creighton said the sheriff’s office did not have an update on her condition.
Jean Song, who was believed to be the “aggressor,” was also transported to a local hospital where he died. He reportedly suffered a self-inflicted wound.
Investigators were seen processing the home throughout the day Wednesday and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office was also on site.
Creighton said the sheriff’s office would not release information on the type of weapon used or other additional details until the coroner’s office has examined the victims.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team are investigating the incident.
Crime scene tape was placed to block off large sections of the area surrounding the residence.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eric Ellis said earlier Wednesday that the incident is isolated and “there is no danger to the public.”
All five people involved are family members, the sheriff’s office said, which has released few details on the incident.
