A 66-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Route 47 near Woodstock Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:35 p.m. Sunday to Route 47 and Raycraft Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Creighton said the incident involved a single vehicle, a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle.
The motorcycle, driven by a 66-year-old Bloomingdale man, was traveling southbound on Route 47.
The motorcycle was south of Raycraft Road when the driver lost control and crashed into the ditch, Creighton said.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the motorcycle, was transported by ambulance to Northwood Middle School, 2121 North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock.
A LifeNet medical helicopter landed in a grassy area on the school property.
The flight crew then transferred the victim from the ambulance to the helicopter.
The helicopter flew the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said the victim’s injuries were serious and life-threatening.
Creighton said the man’s injuries were non-life-threatening.
It is unknown what led to the motorcyclist losing control, Creighton added.
Route 47 was shut down for approximately 45 minutes in both directions until crews cleared the scene.
