The coroner has released the identity of an 87-year-old woman who died after investigators say she possibly unintentionally accelerated before hitting two trees in Lake Barrington.

An autopsy performed Thursday showed Ann Tuszynski, 87, of Lake Barrington, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of Waterview Court in Lake Barrington for a single-vehicle crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a Nissan Altima with major damage, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

A preliminary investigation shows the Nissan was traveling northbound on Waterview Court.

The driver of the Nissan, later identified as Tuszynski, accelerated for an unknown reason and drove off the roadway into a yard.

The Nissan struck a garbage can and a small tree before striking a second larger tree, Covelli said.

Tuszynski sustained significant injuries in the crash.

Covelli said lifesaving efforts were attempted on Tuszynski but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was injured.

Traffic crash investigators are working to determine if Tuszynski unintentionally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal, causing her to lose control, Covelli said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
