A 15-year-old boy was shot after multiple gunmen opened fire on a residential street in Waukegan before fleeing the scene Thursday afternoon.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 4:18 p.m. Thursday to the 800 block of South McAlister Avenue for a shooting.

A 911 dispatcher initially reported that two victims had been shot and were inside a home.

Officers arrived to find only one victim, a 15-year-old boy, had been shot, according to a police report.

The boy had a gunshot wound to his foot and was transported to the hospital.

Officers learned that gunshots were fired from a white vehicle, possibly an SUV, occupied by four or five people.

Officers recovered multiple spent shell casings in the roadway on McAlister Avenue from 8th Street to 9th Street, the report said.

Different calibers of casings were found, indicating multiple gunmen.

Officers cleared the scene within approximately an hour. No arrests have been announced yet.

An Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN) alert was broadcast to area police departments with information on the suspect vehicle, which was believed to have been stolen.

The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
