A Crystal Lake woman has been charged with endangering the lives of three children and kicking one of them, a 5-year-old boy, in the face, leaving him injured in Crystal Lake.
Martha Cruz-Hernandez, 26, of Crystal Lake, was charged with aggravated battery of a child, two counts of domestic battery and three counts of child endangerment.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Cruz-Hernandez was intoxicated on the morning of July 24.
Cruz-Hernandez was rendered unable to take care of the three children who were in her care due to the intoxication, the complaint said.
The three children’s ages ranged from three to seven years old.
Cruz-Hernandez allegedly battered a 5-year-old boy by kicking him in the face with her foot, the complaint said.
The child suffered injuries to his face, including his nose, the complaint said.
The Crystal Lake Police Department responded and arrested Cruz-Hernandez.
McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge ordered the woman held on a $15,000 bond during an initial court hearing.
Cruz-Hernandez was released from the McHenry County Jail after someone posted 10% of her bond.
Coppedge ordered her to turn over any firearms she owns to the police department and barred her from having any contact with the victim.
A status of attorney hearing is scheduled for September 7.
