Sheriff’s deputy responding to a 911 call arrested a Crystal Lake man who they witnessed attacking a woman after he also allegedly endangered the life of a child in Port Barrington.
The Lake County Sheriffโs Office received a 911 open line around 11:15 p.m. last Saturday where it sounded like a struggle was occurring, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
Dispatchers were able to pinpoint the cell phone to the area of West Roberts Road and Rawson Bridge Road in Port Barrington.
Sheriffโs deputies arrived and located a vehicle on the side of the roadway where a man was outside of the driverโs door attempting to pull a driver out of the car.
A preliminary investigation shows the man, Victor H. Cortes-Morales, 32, of Crystal Lake, was at a social gathering with the victim, a 43-year-old woman.
The woman determined it was time to leave the gathering because an infant, which Cortes-Morales and the woman share in common, needed to go home, Covelli said.
The victim placed the infant in a child seat and Cortes-Morales got into the car in the back seat.
Covelli said that Cortes-Morales, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, became enraged he had to leave the party while they were driving.
He removed the infant child from the car seat while the car was moving on the roadway in an attempt to force the victim to drive back to the party, Covelli said.
The victim told Cortes-Morales to put the infant back into the car seat and she pulled the car over.
Cortes-Morales pulled the victimโs hair and punched her in the face, Covelli said.
He exited the car and attempted to forcefully remove the victim from the driverโs seat.
Sheriffโs deputies arrived and intervened to stop the attack, Covelli said.
Cortes-Morales was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail. He was charged with domestic battery, child neglect and child endangerment.
A judge set his bond at $5,000 and he was released after posting 10%.
