A man was wounded and a residence was struck by gunfire after gunmen fired shots while children were playing outside in Waukegan Friday morning.
The Waukegan Police Department responded around 11 a.m. Friday to the 500 block of South Genesee Street for a report of shots fired.
Officers arrived to find a residence had been struck by numerous rounds.
The residents initially reported no one was injured, according to a police report.
A man later showed up at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot.
Officers learned a light-colored SUV, possibly a Subaru, drove by and suspects inside the car fired almost 10 shots.
Small children were playing in front of the residence at the time of the shooting, the report said.
The children and other residents ran inside when the shots were fired.
The victim’s injury was non-life-threatening and detectives responded to conduct an investigation.
No arrests have been announced and the incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
In June, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot on the same block by multiple gunmen.
