Over a dozen fire departments responded after heavy flames engulfed the inside of an automotive shop, causing extensive damage to the building in Libertyville Saturday evening.
The Libertyville Fire Department responded around 5:15 p.m. Saturday to Top Notch Tire Plus, 530 East Park Avenue in Libertyville.
Libertyville Fire Chief Michael Pakosta said crews initially received a call for smoke inside the building.
Firefighters arrived to find an active fire in an automotive repair shop.
The response was upgraded to a working fire response to bring additional resources to the scene.
Pakosta said crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions in the building.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to bring additional fire departments to the scene and to cover Libertyville fire stations.
Fire crews aggressively performed suppression and overhaul, Pakosta said.
The fire was declared under control in less than an hour. The fire was fully extinguished by 6:35 p.m.
Pakosta said the building sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Pakosta added.
The Countryside, Long Grove, Mundelein, Zion, North Chicago, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Lake Bluff, Round Lake, Grayslake, Antioch, Gurnee, Lake Zurich, Newport, Buffalo Grove and Lake Villa fire departments assisted during the incident.
The Libertyville Police Department and Mundelein Police Department provided traffic control. The NMESS Canteen also assisted at the scene.
