Surveillance video released shows multiple suspects running through a neighborhood in Lake Forest trying to break into cars as police warn residents to lock their vehicles.
The Lake Forest Police Department released surveillance video Tuesday afternoon of the incident.
The video was taken Tuesday morning just before 7 a.m. in the Ridgewood subdivision in Lake Forest.
The video shows at least three young males running down Sheffield Court.
The suspects are seen in the video trying to open car doors. The two cars in the video were both locked.
“Watch how efficiently they work down the street, checking both sides for any unlocked cars with key fobs left in them,” the police department said.
A trailing getaway vehicle can be seen driving down the street following the subjects.
“Behind them, a trailing vehicle follows, ready to scoop the offenders up and flee if a homeowner or police intervene,” the department said.
The getaway car, a Honda Pilot, was believed to have been stolen from another Lake County town hours prior.
Police say anyone who sees this behavior pattern should call 911. Residents should always keep their cars locked, police added.
Just three days later, the Lake Forest Police Department said more than 10 vehicles were burglarized overnight from Thursday into Friday by a group of offenders.
The department released a video showing two of the offenders burglarizing a vehicle parked on a driveway on Scott Street.
“Don’t make it easy! In last 12 months, 100% of vehicles stolen from Lake Forest were unlocked,” the police department said.
