Police arrested a Beach Park man after he allegedly forced entry and burglarized a grocery store in Lake Forest overnight before fleeing the scene, officials said.

The Lake Forest Police Department responded early Monday morning to Sunset Foods, 825 South Waukegan Road in Lake Forest, for a report of a burglary.

Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Michael Lange said officers arrived and found forced entry had been made to the business.

The officers determined a rock had been used during the break-in.

Officers conducted a search of the surrounding area after obtaining a description of the suspect, Lange said.

Officers located a subject matching the description of the offender a short distance away from the store.

He was identified as Damon J. Hill, 19, of Beach Park. He was found in possession of items from the store, Lange said.

Hill allegedly resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.

Lange said it was not immediately known the estimated value of the stolen merchandise.

Hill was charged with commercial burglary, criminal damage to property, retail theft and resisting arrest.

Detectives are investigating whether Hill is involved in other burglaries in the Lake County area, Lange said.

Hill remains held at the Lake Forest Police Department and will be transported to the Lake County Jail for a bond hearing later Monday.
