A juvenile, who was out of custody in a shooting case, was arrested after he accidentally shot himself in Waukegan while posing with a gun for social media.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department were called around 9 p.m. Sunday to the 2800 block of Grandville Avenue in Waukegan for a gunshot victim.

Officers arrived to find a juvenile had accidentally shot himself.

Fire department radio traffic indicate he had been shot in the leg.

The juvenile had been attempting to post himself holding a gun on social media when he discharged the loaded gun, according to a police report.

The boy reportedly tried ditching the gun outside of the apartment building, the report said.

Officers and a Lake County sheriff’s canine searched for the gun without locating it.

Paramedics arrived and transported the juvenile to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

It is unknown whether the juvenile is being petitioned to the court for charges following the reckless discharge.
