Police say a semi-truck driver was hospitalized after he rear-ended another semi-truck, causing significant damage, on Interstate 94 near Libertyville Tuesday.

The Libertyville Fire Department and Illinois State Police responded around 5:01 a.m. Tuesday to Interstate 94 near Route 176 in Libertyville for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Illinois State Police District Troop 15 troopers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash involving semi-trucks hauling tractor-trailers.

Both vehicles were traveling westbound on Interstate 94 at the time of the crash.

Police said one of the semi-trucks rear-ended the second one for unknown reasons.

The right lane was shut down until Ernie’s Wrecker Service responded and towed the heavily damaged semi-truck.

The driver of the at-fault semi-truck suffered multiple injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

His injuries were non-life-threatening, police said. The driver of the second semi-truck was uninjured.

Police did not say whether any citations were issued or will be issued.
