A man suffered a graze wound to the head after a shootout that led to a car crashing into a tree and another car hitting a parked car in Waukegan Monday morning.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 11:40 a.m. Monday to the area of 60 North McAree Road for a report of a shooting.
911 callers reported shots fired between people in multiple vehicles on McAree Road between Cornelia Avenue and Hyde Park Avenue, according to a police report.
A caller also reported that a man had been shot and a car had crashed following the shooting.
Officers arrived to find a 22-year-old man who had a graze wound to his head, the report said.
Paramedics transported him to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers found a silver Audi sedan crashed into a tree in front of an apartment building on McAree Road south of Cornelia Avenue.
A second vehicle, a black Nissan Rogue, was also found crashed into a parked car near the intersection.
The Audi and the Nissan both had bullet holes in them. No one was inside either vehicle when police arrived.
Investigators believe a third vehicle was also involved in the incident and fled, the report said.
Officers recovered a gun near the scene and multiple shell casings were also recovered.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
