A Tesla dealership, luxury apartments and the popular Lazy Dog Restaurant are planned to be built in Buffalo Grove after the village board granted an initial approval.
The Tesla dealership development will be built along Dundee Road east of Arlington Heights Road in Buffalo Grove.
The 50,000-square-foot Tesla dealership will be developed by Shorewood Development Group, which will also build two retail tenant spaces adjacent to the dealership along with luxury residential units.
The 16-acre development is located at 915-945 Dundee Road, which is where the former Rohrman auto dealerships have sat vacant for over a decade.
Village officials say the introduction of the Tesla dealership is a catalytic event sparking the creation of a fresh TIF district.
“This strategic move will help revitalize the area and boost the local economy,” the Village of Buffalo Grove said in a statement.
Louis Schriber, Founder and CEO of Shorewood Development Group, said the company has “loved doing business with Buffalo Grove” over the past years.
“This highly anticipated project wouldn’t be possible without the Village’s willingness to put in place the economic development tools necessary to spur redevelopment,” Schriber said.
During a board meeting Monday, the Buffalo Grove Village Board sent the development petition to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The board also sent a development petition to the Planning and Zoning Commission for the development of a Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar.
The popular restaurant plans to bring its made-from-scratch American food and drink to the corner of Lake Cook Road and Route 83.
The restaurant will be built on the northeast corner, which is the last corner at the intersection awaiting development.
A road construction project was recently completed last year at the intersection and a Northwest Community Healthcare building was built on the southeast corner.
The Clove, a new modern central entertainment and residential district, is under construction to the west of the intersection and Wild Fork and Veterinary Emergency Medical Group is under development to the south.
“It’s booming here in BG, and our energy is contagious,” Village President Eric Smith said.
“We’ve built a foundation and paved the way for development, and the market is responding with modern, innovative and experiential plans that align with our vision,” Smith said.
Once the Planning and Zoning Commission reviews the latest development plans, they will be sent back to the village board for final approval.
Construction will begin next spring if everything goes according to plan, the village said.
