Police say two 19-year-old men were arrested after one of them stole a gun and the second one was found possessing the stolen gun in Zion.

Officers with the Zion Police Department stopped two men in the 2300 block of 28th Street for pedestrian code violations around 4:21 p.m. Saturday.

Zion Police Department Lt. Derek Zaloudek said officers identified the subjects as Braylin Harper, 19, of Zion, and Levi Harris, 19, of Zion.

Harper allegedly refused to identify himself but additional responding officers recognized him from previous contacts.

Officers learned that Harper had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for felony theft of a firearm, Zaloudek said. He was taken into custody.

Officers found Harris in possession of a Glock 19X 9mm handgun and arrested him as well.

Harris is ineligible to possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and concealed carry license, Zaloudek said.

Zaloudek said the Glock handgun Harris possessed was determined to be the same Glock handgun Harper was wanted for stealing.

Harper was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on a $25,000 bond, which was set on his arrest warrant.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for Harris.

A Lake County judge ordered Harris held in the Lake County Jail on a bond of $75,000.

Both men remain held in the jail as of Thursday.
