A Crystal Lake man has been charged with stabbing another man, causing him great bodily harm, during an armed robbery in Crystal Lake, court documents show.
Jarvoisias J. McCoy, 19, of Crystal Lake, was initially charged in early July with one count of theft, a Class 3 felony.
A grand jury later indicted McCoy on charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery, robbery, two counts of aggravated battery and theft.
The indictment said McCoy was armed with a “stabbing instrument” on August 29, 2022, in Crystal Lake.
McCoy robbed another man of a black satchel purse, the indictment and a criminal complaint said.
McCoy used the weapon to stab the victim in the abdomen, causing him great bodily harm, the indictment said.
It is unknown what was inside the stolen satchel, which had a value of less than $500.
An arrest warrant had been issued for McCoy on July 5. He was taken into custody two days later.
McCoy was released after posting 10% of a $16,000 bond following his initial charge.
A judge did not increase his bond following the grand jury indictment, which upgraded McCoy’s most serious charge to a Class X felony.
A Class X felony carries six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Prosecutors have not filed a motion to increase McCoy’s bond following the upgraded charges.
McCoy pleaded not guilty to all charges during an arraignment hearing Friday.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 6 for a status of trial date hearing.
