A McHenry man is in critical condition after he suffered life-threatening injuries when a car turned in front of him, causing a collision, near Libertyville Friday evening.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:50 p.m. Friday to Route 45 and Route 137 in unincorporated Libertyville for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a motorcyclist with critical injuries.

The motorcyclist was reported to be unconscious and not breathing, according to fire department radio traffic.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2010 Chrysler sedan was traveling eastbound on Route 137, Covelli said.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 26-year-old Round Lake Beach man, was on Route 137 attempting to make a left turn onto the ramp leading to Route 45.

The driver of the Chrysler turned left, directly into the path of a westbound 2010 Yamaha motorcycle.

Covelli said the driver of the motorcycle, a 56-year-old McHenry man, was unable to stop or avoid the collision and struck the Chrysler.

The 56-year-old man was ejected from the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening, critical injuries, Covelli said.

The driver of the Chrysler was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
