Eduardo Cervantes, 27, of Waukegan.

A man wanted on a warrant was arrested and a woman was also arrested after officers found a rifle in a vehicle they were in at a parking garage in Waukegan.

A Waukegan police officer conducted a search of the parking garage at 225 North County Street in Waukegan around 5:20 a.m. on August 20.

Officers located an occupied vehicle on the fourth level of the garage.

The driver was identified as Eduardo Cervantes, 27, of Waukegan, and the passenger was identified as Kassandra Dorasco, 26, of Waukegan.

Both occupants were asleep in the vehicle and the officer recognized Cervantes because he had an active arrest warrant, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Francis DeRosa.

Cervantes was wanted on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and enhanced domestic battery, court records show.

Officers noticed a Smith and Wesson .22 long rifle on the front seat passenger floorboard where Dorasco was sitting, DeRosa said.

Cervantes and Dorasco were both arrested. A small amount of heroin was also located.

DeRosa said neither occupant of the car had a concealed carry license.

One of the occupants said the gun belonged to an acquaintance and they were going to trade it in for a car.

Dorasco was charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and Cervantes was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak allowed Dorasco to be released on a personal recognizance bond.

Potkonjak ordered Cervantes held on a $250,000 bond. He remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $25,000 cash to be released.
