School resources officers stationed at Stevenson High School responded around 12:14 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a student armed with a handgun in the building.
Lincolnshire Deputy Police Chief Kimberly Covelli said additional officers arrived on the scene for assistance.
Officers quickly located a male juvenile matching the description provided by a witness.
The juvenile was detained and searched. Officers found the student in possession of an airsoft gun.
Covelli said there were no reports of threats made against students, faculty or staff at the school.
