Three juveniles were arrested after detectives heard shots fired while conducting an investigation in Waukegan and chased down the suspects, who were armed with guns.

Detectives were conducting a death investigation around 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Helmholz Avenue in Waukegan.

A male resident, who was in his late 50s, was found dead the previous day inside a residence, according to a police report.

The resident’s death was not considered suspicious and he had health issues.

The man was believed to have fallen, leading to him hitting his head.

The detectives were at the home when they heard shots being fired near the intersection of Helmholz Avenue and Lenox Avenue, the report said.

The detectives pursued three juvenile suspects who they saw running from the scene.

The juveniles were arrested and two guns were recovered that were tossed during the chase.

The suspects were transported to the police stations. Charges were pending further investigation, the report said.
