Theresa M. Nickol, 46, of Round Lake Heights.

A woman has been charged with driving while under the influence and fleeing the scene after being involved in a crash that left two victims trapped on Route 12 near Volo.

Theresa M. Nickol, 46, of Round Lake Heights, was charged with three counts of driving under the influence and one count of leaving the scene of a crash.

The incident happened on April 30 at Route 12 and Brandenburg Road near Volo.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Daly said Nickol’s vehicle collided with another vehicle.

The other vehicle rolled over and the driver and the passenger of that vehicle were trapped inside.

Firefighters had to extricate the two victims from the car, Daly said.

Nickol fled the scene but was later located and transported to the hospital for a blood draw.

The results showed Nickol had a blood alcohol content of 0.191, Daly said. Court records said she was also under the influence of a drug.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and obtained an arrest warrant in early August.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Nickol, who surrendered on the warrant late last month, held on a $20,000 bond.

Nickol has since been released from the Lake County Jail after posting 10% of her bond.

Nickol has pleaded not guilty to her charges and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 4.
