A man was injured but survived after he rolled his pickup truck over and crashed into a pole, causing the truck to wrap around the pole, in Zion early Sunday morning.
The Zion Fire-Rescue Department and Zion Police Department responded around 2:58 a.m. Sunday to 9th Street and Green Bay Road in Zion for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Zion Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief Rocco Campanella told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that fire crews arrived to find a pickup truck crashed into a pole.
The truck had major damage and was wrapped around the utility pole on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The adult male driver was trapped inside the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes while crews worked to extricate him, Campanella said.
The Pleasant Prairie and Winthrop Harbor fire departments responded to assist with the incident.
A medical helicopter was requested to the scene but the closest helicopter was already out on another call, Campanella said.
The driver, who was the sole occupant, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Paramedics transported him by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by the Zion Police Department.
Campanella said the incident was the second crash in less than 24 hours at the same intersection.
Emergency crews responded around 11 a.m. Saturday after a dump truck and a second vehicle collided, causing the truck to roll over.
A family of three was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Campanella said.
The driver of the truck declined transport to the hospital.
