A driver suffered only minor injuries after his car slammed into the side of Mickey Finn’s Brewery in Libertyville, causing a major gas leak that shut down Milwaukee Avenue Wednesday.

The Libertyville Fire Department and Libertyville Police Department responded around 7:53 p.m. Wednesday to Mickey Finn’s Brewery, 345 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, for a car that struck the building.

Fire officials said crews arrived to find a vehicle that struck the side of the building.

The collision resulted in a significant natural gas leak outside after the building’s gas meter was damaged.

Area businesses, including Mickey Finn’s, were evacuated due to the gas leak.

Several fire departments responded to the scene to ventilate the area and inside of several businesses.

Paramedics transported the driver of the vehicle, a 1993 Excalibur, to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No one in the restaurant was injured.

Several police departments assisted with traffic control by shutting down portions of Milwaukee Avenue and Church Street were temporarily shut down during the ventilation of the area.

The gas company was called to the scene and the gas was shut off around 8:35 p.m.

The gas company remained on the scene for several hours and the surrounding roadways remained shut down into late Wednesday evening.

Police officials said no criminal charges have been filed but the investigation remains ongoing.

Mickey Finn’s says their USO fundraiser is still scheduled to take place Thursday evening in the rear parking lot.
