A 20-year-old man suffered major injuries and died after he was ejected from his motorcycle, which collided with an SUV on Green Bay Road in Waukegan Sunday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 5:45 p.m. Sunday to the area of Green Bay Road and 10th Street in Waukegan for a vehicle crash with injuries.
911 callers reported a car and a motorcycle were involved in a crash at the intersection.
One 911 caller reported the motorcyclist suffered major injuries and had an amputated leg, according to fire department radio traffic.
The SUV involved had come to a stop in the intersection while the motorcycle was located approximately 100 feet away in the grass in front of Maj-Estic Collision Center.
Officers arrived to find the motorcycle operator, a 20-year-old man, with critical injuries, authorities said.
Paramedics transported him to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Doctors pronounced the man dead in the emergency room shortly after he arrived.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified around 6:50 p.m. of the death.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said her office conducted an autopsy on Monday and identified the victim as Genry Matute-Amador, 20, of Waukegan.
The autopsy confirmed that Matute-Amador died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, Banek said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department, which shut down the intersection for several hours Sunday for an investigation.
The police department has not released any information on the incident yet.
