The coroner’s office has identified a 79-year-old man from Fox River Grove who died after a t-bone-style crash that left three teenagers hospitalized in Lincolnshire Tuesday evening.

An autopsy performed Wednesday showed that William Mooney, 79, of Fox River Grove, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Lincolnshire Police Department responded around 8:14 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Aptakisic Road in Lincolnshire for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Lincolnshire Deputy Police Chief Kimberly Covelli said a black 2004 Lexus RX330 was traveling northbound on Milwaukee Avenue.

The Lexus was attempting to turn onto westbound Aptakisic Road from Milwaukee Avenue.

A red 2010 Toyota Rav4 was traveling southbound on Milwaukee Avenue at the same time, Covelli said.

The Toyota proceeded through the intersection as the Lexus turned in front of it, resulting in the collision.

Officers arrived to find the driver of the Lexus, later identified as Mooney, who was unresponsive, Covelli said. He was the sole occupant of his car.

Officers and the fire department performed CPR and other lifesaving measures on Mooney.

Covelli said paramedics transported Mooney to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where doctors pronounced him dead.

The driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old Buffalo Grove man, along with his two juvenile passengers were transported to nearby hospitals.

A 16-year-old juvenile was treated and has since been released, Covelli said. A 17-year-old juvenile remains hospitalized.

The 19-year-old driver was treated at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital and has since been released.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was activated due to the seriousness of the crash.

Covelli said MCAT is conducting a reconstruction of the crash to determine who was at fault.

“MCATโ€™s reconstruction report will show key information such [as] vehicle speeds, which may have contributed to the crash. Weโ€™re also attempting to locate video to determine the color of the traffic light when the crash occurred,” Covelli said.

A court order will also be sought for blood work to review whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lincolnshire Police Department and MCAT.
