A driver was critically injured after an SUV crashed into a traffic sign, sheared off a tree and rolled over onto its roof on Green Bay Road in Waukegan.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 2:36 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Green Bay Road and Washington Street for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Officers arrived and found a Toyota Rav4 that was rolled over on its roof.
Officers reported the driver was trapped inside the vehicle, according to fire department radio traffic.
Firefighters removed the driver from the vehicle and paramedics transported them to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The driver was initially in critical condition but is expected to survive, a police report said.
An investigation showed the Toyota was traveling southbound on Green Bay Road at Washington Street.
The vehicle struck the center grass median curb on the northbound side, the report said.
The Toyota continued southbound and crashed into a garden bed before destroying a traffic control sign.
The vehicle sheared off a small tree and rolled over onto its roof in the southbound lane of traffic.
A vehicle that was traveling southbound sideswiped a corner of the rolled-over Toyota.
