The sheriff’s office said that clerks at seven establishments in Lake County were cited after being caught selling alcohol to minors during recent compliance checks.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said they routinely conduct alcohol compliance checks at liquor-selling establishments in Lake County.

“The compliance checks are designed to ensure businesses vending alcohol are not selling to anyone under the age of 21,” Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.

Of the 55 establishments tested recently, seven of them sold alcohol to someone under the age of 21.

The clerks in violation were ticketed for selling liquor to a minor. They are required to appear in Waukegan court.

Mariana Shpetko, 26, who is the clerk at Aldi, 2741 Hartigan Road in Volo, was cited.

Bijal Pater, 24, who is the clerk at Puff N Stuff, 20370 North Rand Road in Deer Park, was cited.

Upendra Vallabhbhai Patel, 73, who is the clerk at Country Corner, 26071 North Diamond Lake Road in unincorporated Mundelein, was cited.

Two establishments in Beach Park were found in violation, including the Casey’s at 39131 North Sheridan Road, resulting in clerk Jesus Zavala Alcantar, 27, being cited.

The second Beach Park establishment found in violation was Hoeksema’s Mini Mart at 38975 North Lewis Avenue, resulting in clerk Jayavander Kitab Singh, 24, being cited.

The last two establishments in Lake County busted in the sting were A&N Liquor, 34780 Catherine Drive in Ingleside, and BP gas station, 41530 North Route 45 in unincorporated Antioch.

The clerk at A&N Liquor, Richard D. Ledgerwood, 69, and the clerk at BP, Gloria J. Ramirez, 48, were both cited.

Covelli said that notice of the violations was sent to all of the respective liquor commission jurisdictions.
