The drivers of two vehicles were both trapped in their SUVs after a head-on crash that caused one of the vehicles to roll over into a cornfield near Marengo Tuesday morning.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and Boone County Fire Protection District 2 responded around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday to Kishwaukee Valley Road and County Line Road in unincorporated Marengo.

Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said a 911 caller reported a head-on crash occurred and victims were trapped.

Firefighters arrived on the scene in 10 minutes and found a two-vehicle crash at the intersection.

One of the vehicles had rolled over during the crash but came to a rest upright in a cornfield, Vucha said.

A female driver was trapped inside the heavily-damaged SUV and firefighters worked to extricate her.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital โ€“ Riverside in Rockford with moderate injuries, Vucha said.

A male driver in a second SUV was also trapped inside his vehicle.

He was extricated and transported by ambulance to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford with minor injuries.

Vucha said both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

The Boone County Sheriffโ€™s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
