A 74-year-old man was charged after he allegedly tried attracting children to his vehicle outside an apartment building in Woodstock, court records show.
Thomas R. Donnelly, 74, of Woodstock, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Donnelly committed disorderly conduct around 4:10 p.m. on September 21.
Children were outside in the 800 block of Prairie View Lane in Woodstock at the time.
Donnelly tried to attract the children to his car in the presence of a child’s mother, the complaint said.
The complaint said the mother was alarmed and disturbed by Donnelly’s behavior.
Woodstock Deputy Police Chief Ray Lanz said a booking photo was not available for Donnelly because he was not taken into custody.
Donnelly was only cited for the incident because his charge is a Class C misdemeanor.
Lanz said he could not confirm whether there were any reports in other locations involving Donnelly or if the incident on Prairie View Lane was a lone occurrence.
Lanz said the investigation is ongoing and additional details could not be released.
Donnelly is scheduled to appear in court for a plea hearing on October 26.
