A semi-truck became fully engulfed in flames under an overpass following a crash with another semi-truck, resulting in Interstate 90 near Huntley being shut down Thursday.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Illinois State Police responded around 5:18 a.m. Thursday to Interstate 90 at mile marker 48 near Huntley for a vehicle crash with fire.

A spokesperson for the Illinois State Police said Troop 15 troopers arrived to find a two-vehicle crash.

The crash involved semi-trucks that were both hauling trailers and traveling in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near Powers Road.

One of the semi-trucks caught on fire as a result of the crash, the state police said.

The cab of the semi was engulfed in flames and the fire spread to the trailer, which was reportedly carrying frozen food.

The fully engulfed commercial vehicle was stopped directly under the Powers Road overpass. It is unclear whether the bridge was damaged.

Multiple fire departments were called to the scene to extinguish the fire.

The driver of the semi-truck that caught fire escaped from the truck. No injuries were reported in the crash and fire.

Traffic on Powers Road over Interstate 90 was shut down by police officers.

All westbound lanes of Interstate 90 and the left lane of eastbound Interstate 90 were also shut down due to the fire.

Traffic was only getting by on the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 90, state police said.

The eastbound left lane and the right lane on the westbound side were reopened by 8 a.m.

The left and middle lane of westbound Interstate 90 remained shut down as of Thursday afternoon but has since been reopened.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
