A woman is facing numerous charges after prosecutors say she “gunned it” and struck her boyfriend with a vehicle, leaving him with significant injuries, in Mundelein.
Emily Mora, 27, of Park City, was charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, two counts of domestic battery, two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Manuel Mandujano said Mora and her boyfriend drove together from a bar in Wheeling on October 1.
The two began arguing as they were driving through Mundelein and the boyfriend pulled the car into a Domino’s restaurant parking lot.
The man got out of the car and Mora slid into the driver’s seat, Mandujano said.
The man began walking down Lake Street and Mora began driving off without the victim.
Mandujano said Mora did a U-turn to pick her boyfriend up but the man started running away.
Mora struck the man with the vehicle, Mandujano said. The woman claimed it was an accident.
Witnesses told officers that Mora “gunned it” and struck the victim intentionally.
Mandujano said the victim suffered significant injuries to his hands and face.
Officers determined Mora was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Lake County Judge Ari Fisz released Mora from custody with pre-trial release conditions after the prosecutor said they were not filing a petition to detain her.
Mora is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.
