Alexis D. Kolberg, 26, of Wonder Lake.

A judge granted pre-trial release for a Wonder Lake woman who is accused of striking a 5-year-old child in the head with a broom stick, leaving the child injured, court records show.

Alexis D. Kolberg, 26, of Wonder Lake, was charged with one count of aggravated battery of a child and two counts of domestic battery.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Kolberg battered a child around 10:30 a.m. on October 2.

Kolberg used a broom stick to strike the boy, who is five years old, in the back of the head, the complaint said.

The complaint said the child was examined by a school nurse, who discovered a bump on the back of his head.

The victim disclosed that Kolberg struck him with a broom stick in the spot where the bump was found, according to the complaint.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was notified and arrested Kolberg following an investigation.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and approved the charges against Kolberg.

Prosecutors filed a petition to detain Kolberg following her arrest, calling her a real and present threat.

McHenry County Judge Mark Facchini denied the request and found there were less restrictive conditions than keeping Kolberg in jail to ensure her appearance in court and the safety of the victim.

Facchini ordered the woman to have no contact with the child for 72 hours after her release from the McHenry County Jail.

A status of preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 2.
