Paramedics performed CPR on an elderly woman who was found not breathing after she crashed her car off of the roadway in Barrington Hills Friday afternoon.

The Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District and Barrington Hills Police Department responded around 2:55 p.m. Friday to Brinker Road and Hills and Dales Road for a vehicle crash.

A 911 caller reported a black Volkswagen drove off the roadway and struck a wooden pole, according to fire department radio traffic.

The caller reported one person was unconscious in the vehicle.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and confirmed the female driver of the Volkswagen was unconscious and not breathing.

Paramedics began performing lifesaving measures and transported the woman to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Barrington Hills Police Department Press Information Officer William Walsh said the 75-year-old woman driving the vehicle appeared to have suffered a medical issue that led to the crash.

The Volkswagen left the roadway and struck several mailboxes, Walsh said.

The vehicle appeared to have been traveling southbound on Brinker Road before leaving the roadway on the west side of Brinker Road.

Walsh said the woman was alive when she was transported by the ambulance to the hospital.

Her current condition was not known but she presumably remains alive as the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not reported her death in their daily case reports.
