The coroner has released the identity of a 42-year-old man who died after his SUV crashed into a nitrogen tank cage on the side of a manufacturing plant in Buffalo Grove Sunday.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 4:38 p.m. Sunday to Vapor Bus International, 1010 Johnson Drive in Buffalo Grove.

The call initially was dispatched as a non-emergency “check the hazards” call for a vehicle crash, according to fire department radio traffic. No injuries were immediately reported.

Officers arrived first and found a vehicle that struck a nitrogen tank cage next to the building, according to Village of Buffalo Grove Director of Communications Molly Gillespie.

Officers discovered a 42-year-old man was still inside the dark-colored Ford Explorer and trapped.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the victim as Fernando Montesinos-Rojas, 42, of Wheeling.

Officers reported Montesinos-Rojas was possibly deceased and the fire department response was upgraded.

Paramedics confirmed Montesinos-Rojas, who was the sole occupant of the SUV, was dead at the scene, Gillespie said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to the scene to conduct a crash investigation.

Banek said a preliminary autopsy performed Monday on Montesinos-Rojas showed he died as a result of blunt force injuries.

Final autopsy results are pending toxicology testing, including carbon monoxide testing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Departmentโ€™s Traffic Unit and MCAT.
