Emergency crews were actively searching by land and water for a 60-year-old hunter who went missing in unincorporated Lake Villa Monday morning, officials said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a missing person.
Deputies learned a 60-year-old man was hunting on Fourth Lake in unincorporated Lake Villa, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.
The man has not been heard from since 10 a.m. Monday.
Covelli said the sheriff’s office located the man’s boat and property at his duck blind.
As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, emergency crews have been unable to locate the man.
“We are searching the marshy area surrounding the lake, and the lake itself,” Covelli said.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District and numerous other fire departments were called to assist in the water search Monday afternoon.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level to bring sonar technicians to the lake.
Fire department personnel were staged near Fourth Lake Hunt Club, 20703 West Lakeview Avenue in unincorporated Lake Villa, which is on the northwest side of Fourth Lake.
The Fox Lake, Grayslake, Round Lake, Antioch, Wauconda, Mundelein, Lake Forest, Gurnee, Libertyville and Countryside fire departments responded to the MABAS request.
