Police say a Round Lake Beach woman was killed after she was struck by a car and then run over by a second vehicle that drove around the first vehicle in Gurnee Monday evening.
The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 9 p.m. Monday to Hunt Club Road and Washington Street for a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers learned a woman was crossing Hunt Club Road approximately 100 feet north of the crosswalk along Washington Street.
The pedestrian, a 56-year-old Round Lake Beach woman, was wearing all-black clothing while walking northbound in the left lane of Hunt Club Road, Gaylor said.
A Buick Encore, driven by a 24-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin man, was traveling northbound on Hunt Club Road.
The Buick struck the pedestrian, resulting in the woman being thrown into the right lane of northbound Hunt Club Road, Gaylor said.
A Honda Civic, driven by a 19-year-old Wauconda woman, was traveling northbound on Hunt Club Road in the same area moments later.
Gaylor said the Honda went around the stopped Buick and struck the woman, who was lying in the roadway.
The woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
No other injuries were reported from the crash, Gaylor said.
Investigators with the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene and conducted a crash investigation.
Hunt Club Road was shut down in both directions during the investigation.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the female victim yet.
The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and MCAT.
