Police say they have arrested a student and charged him with felonies after he made a threat involving a weapon toward Marengo Community High School.

The Marengo Police Department said they were made aware Tuesday of a threat directed toward Marengo Community High School.

Officers worked closely with school officials and identified the subject behind the threat.

The suspect, a juvenile male, was arrested and charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, a Class 4 felony.

Police said they could not release further information because the suspect is a juvenile.

A message sent to parents from the school administration said the student posted the threat on social media.

School officials said there was no evidence of a weapon at school nor any danger to students, staff or the community.

Police were at the school and added security protocols will be put in place.

School officials say they were made aware that “many people” saw the threatening post.

“This is a perfect opportunity to have a discussion with your student regarding the importance of immediately alerting staff or police in situations like this,” the school said in its message.

“Please stress the importance of prompt information and how it can help administration and authorities,” officials added.

Police say they will have an extra presence at the school following the incident.
