Gerald L. Dominick Jr., 59, of McHenry.

A McHenry man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a girl, who was under the age of 13, in McHenry County.

Gerald L. Dominick Jr., 59, of McHenry, was charged in June 2021 with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.

A grand jury indictment said Dominick sexually assaulted a child between June 1, 2021, and June 20, 2021.

Dominick committed two separate acts on the victim, who was under the age of 13, the indictment said.

Prosecutors said the victim disclosed to relatives that she had been assaulted by Dominick.

A family member later confronted Dominick and he admitted to committing the sexual assault, prosecutors said.

The case was investigated by the McHenry Police Department, Woodstock Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Dominick was arrested on June 23, 2021, and transported to the McHenry County Jail.

Court records show Dominick, who has been out on a $100,000 bond, recently entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Dominick pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, and his second count was dismissed.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea deal and sentenced Dominick to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He faced up to 30 years in prison on the charge.

Dominick will serve 85% of the sentence in accordance with truth-in-sentencing guidelines.

He will be required to register as a sex offender for life upon his release.

Davis remanded Dominick into the custody of the McHenry County Jail upon the sentence, which was handed down Monday.
