Joseph Austin, 71, of Riverwoods.

Police in Will County have arrested a 71-year-old man wanted for stabbing two caregivers with scissors at a nursing home facility in Riverwoods, officials said.

The Riverwoods Police Department and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District responded around 9:30 p.m. on October 19 to Elevate Care, 3705 Deerfield Road in Riverwoods.

Riverwoods Chief of Police Bruce Dayno said two caregivers were attacked by Joseph Austin, 71, of Riverwoods.

Austin allegedly stabbed the two victims with a pair of scissors.

It is unclear what exactly prompted the attack. Dayno said the stabbing was “unexpected” by the caregivers.

At least one victim was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for their injuries.

An arrest warrant was obtained charging Austin with four counts of aggravated battery to one victim and two additional counts of aggravated battery to the second victim.
