Police say a man was found dead outside of a building several hours after he suffered an apparent medical event on his way home from buying groceries in Johnsburg.
The Johnsburg Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 7:12 a.m. Tuesday to the 2200 block of Johnsburg Road in Johnsburg for a report of a man down.
Officers received a report of a male subject who was found lying alongside a building, according to Johnsburg Interim Chief of Police Jason Greenwald.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and determined that the subject was dead.
Greenwald said no signs of physical trauma were observed on the man.
He was identified as Joseph Jagielski, 69, who lived in an apartment building nearby.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and a joint investigation began.
Greenwald said it was learned that Jagielski had walked from his residence to a local business to purchase groceries several hours earlier on Monday evening.
“It appeared that while returning to his residence Mr. Jagielski suffered a medical event leading to his death,” Greenwald said.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office arranged to have Jagielski transported to their facility pending final arrangements made by his family.
