A large fight broke out involving an armed person that resulted in someone committing arson, which left a vehicle engulfed in flames on Thanksgiving Day in Waukegan.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 12:27 p.m. Thursday to the Sunset Woods Apartments, 3014 Sunset Avenue in Waukegan.

911 callers reported a large fight in progress and a vehicle was on fire, according to fire department radio traffic.

A bystander pulled the fire alarm after being worried about the car fire being in the vicinity of the building.

A police report said the subjects involved dispersed prior to officers arriving.

A Chevrolet HHR was fully engulfed in flames and was extinguished by firefighters. It is unclear who started the fire or how it was started.

Officers located a loaded magazine to a firearm on the ground in the parking lot, the report said. A single live round of ammunition was also located.

Some residents were uncooperative with officers who responded.

Witnesses told officers that a pickup truck with two males fought the driver of the Chevrolet HHR and others, the report said.

One of the subjects involved dropped a handgun on the ground during the fight but picked it up before fleeing.
