Three gun-wielding suspects robbed a woman of a diaper bag in broad daylight in Waukegan and also tried to carjack her but fled after she did not have her car keys.

The Waukegan Police Department responded around 1 p.m. Friday to Landings at Amhurst Lake apartment complex in the 1300 block of White Oak Drive for a report of an armed robbery.

A woman was unloading belongings from her vehicle when she was approached by three male suspects, according to a police report.

The suspects were all armed with guns and demanded her car keys.

The woman did not have the keys with her and one of the offenders grabbed a diaper bag she was holding, the report said.

The group, who were wearing all black with face masks, ran back to their getaway car and fled the scene.

The getaway vehicle was spotted a short while later at the scene of a carjacking in Zion where suspects successfully stole a victim’s vehicle by force, the report said.

The two vehicles were later spotted in Waukegan traveling together. No suspects are in custody yet.

The incident remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
