Authorities say a 28-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a pickup truck and found lying on the roadway on Route 59 in Fox Lake early Sunday morning.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 1:55 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 59 and Grand Avenue in Fox Lake for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Fox Lake Police Chief Dawn DeServi told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers arrived to find a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, was found lying in the roadway after being struck by a Ford F-150.

The Ford, driven by a 34-year-old man, was traveling southbound on Route 59 at Grand Avenue when the collision occurred, DeServi said.

The 28-year-old man suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, DeServi said. No other injuries were reported.

The driver remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation.

No citations have been issued and no charges have been filed yet as the incident is still pending investigation, DeServi said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to conduct accident reconstruction. The intersection was shut down for several hours.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the victim yet.
