The coroner has released the identity of a 28-year-old man, who was a U.S. Marine veteran, who died after he was struck by a pickup truck in Fox Lake Sunday morning.
An autopsy performed Monday showed Troy Dowsett, 28, of Portsmouth, Virginia, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Fox Lake Police Department responded around 1:55 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 59 and Grand Avenue in Fox Lake for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fox Lake Police Chief Dawn DeServi told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that officers arrived to find a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian.
The victim, later identified as Dowsett, was found lying in the roadway after being struck by a Ford F-150.
The Ford, driven by a 34-year-old man, was traveling southbound on Route 59 at Grand Avenue when the collision occurred, DeServi said.
Dowsett suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, DeServi said. No other injuries were reported.
The driver remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation.
No citations have been issued and no charges have been filed yet as the incident is still pending investigation, DeServi said.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to conduct accident reconstruction. The intersection was shut down for several hours.
Dowsett was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Dowsett’s family created a GoFundMe account to raise money to have him returned to Virginia and pay for his funeral service.
The crash remains under investigation by MCAT and the Fox Lake Police Department.
