No injuries were reported after a fire engulfed a storage shed and quickly spread to an auto sales business in Round Lake Beach early Friday morning.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 4:26 a.m. Friday to 1610 North Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake Beach for a report of a structure fire.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tony Carraro said crews arrived to find a fire in the rear of the building.
An attached storage shed built at the rear of the building was involved in flames.
The small commercial building is an auto sales business that was under renovation at the time of the fire, Carraro said.
The fire also spread to the rear of the main building but firefighters stopped the fire from entering the building.
The interior of the building sustained light smoke and water damage.
The incident was upgraded so area fire departments could cover Round Lake fire stations during the incident.
Fire crews extinguished the fire in 30 minutes but remained on the scene locating and extinguishing hot spots for an additional hour.
No firefighters were injured during the incident. No occupants were in the building when the fire started.
The fire’s cause and origin are under investigation, Carraro said.
The Grayslake, Fox Lake, Antioch, Wauconda and McHenry fire departments responded to the scene or covered Round Lake fire stations.
